"Hidden away in Wainwright’s Northern Fells, we spent a wonderful, crisp and clear weekend in The Grooms Cottage, Uldale. A lot of thought has been taken with the recent refurbishment, it is beautifully fitted out with bespoke furniture, complemented with the excellent choice of soft furnishings and artwork. The Grooms Cottage sits within a quiet courtyard and has a private garden. A superb location with plenty of walking on the doorstop and breath-taking scenery all around, yet close enough to towns and other Lake District attractions if you want to go a bit further by car. The attention to detail is fabulous and the Cottage is immaculately laid out with everything you need. Especially loved all those little extra touches, like the Honesty Larder and the delicious home baked cake that awaited us on arrival. Within easy walking distance of Mae’s Tearoom and The Snooty Fox, which offers excellent food and local beer in warm and comfortable surroundings. A truly great place to stay, we highly recommend."

"What an amazing hidden gem, stayed here for the weekend and had a fantastic stay. The cottage had everything you needed, and was in a perfect location. The welcoming gift of the homemade cake was added bonus. Thank you Deb we will be back again soon "

"Absolutely lovely, couldn’t ask for a better place! Really lovely cottage with everything supplied that you could need. Great location for local walks and also to go exploring by car. Would definitely stay here again!"

Natalie White

"The cottage is so lovely! We were so blown away with how beautifully the cottage was finished, the photos don’t do it justice! Although close to a farm, we didn’t hear any noise from there and it’s ideally located with good walking from the cottage. Debs was great to communicate with, we ordered the breakfast which was delicious and she answered all questions prior to arrival, we let ourselves in and the house was ready and warm! We can’t wait to come back and highly recommend! Thanks Debs!!"

"My girlfriend and I stayed for 4 days and we loved every bit of it. The place is extremely clean and exactly as described. Special mention to the brilliant kitchen and the access to a lovely garden. The cottage is located in a tiny town surrounded by a beautiful landscape. Best of all, Debs is quick and really helpful. Test her jams... They are to die for. "

Mr & Mrs Head

"After trawling through a million cottages on various sites we came across this hidden gem, and spent a very cozy and relaxing New Year there. Situated in a quiet courtyard, we found the cottage to be immaculately presented and extremely well equipped. The bedroom in particular is stunning, with a bespoke wooden bed. The lounge has a great little woodburner and the owners are happy for you to adjust the central heating to suit you (unlike a lot of places where it's pre-set and unchangeable making for cold afternoons when you decide to have a lazy day!) Kitchen is also beautiful and very well designed, ditto the bathroom. Ideally located for exploring the northern Lakes, the cottage has a great information pack including everything from recommended shops, pubs, spas, walks, great if you're not already familiar with the area. All in all an absolutely ideal hideaway for a romantic week or weekend, with very responsive, considerate and accommodating owners - we're already planning a return visit."

Mr & Mrs Benzie

"Little did we know when we were presented with a beautifully wrapped box at Christmas we were being given a little oasis of calm. The Groom’s Cottage is a delightful stone cottage in a peaceful courtyard. It has been sympathetically restored mixing the best of modern design with elegance and comfort that is befitting. Lovely touches will appeal to walkers, maps and a set of Wainwright books to plan that extra walk you will want to cram in, especially after eating Debs cake! Only 11 miles or so from Keswick, ideally based for walks in the Lakes and the surrounding fells near Uldale. Groom’s Cottage is a little haven to return to where you can relish the peace and quiet, broken by the odd hoot from an owl, or after a tiring day it’s a stones throw to a lovely tea room or the welcoming Snooty Fox for a chat and a pint. For us it’s not far away, but it felt like a million miles and a wonderful few days to recharge away from the hustle and bustle. Looking forward to staying again. "

Mr & Mrs Scott

"This is a lovely, cozy little cottage in a quiet unspoiled corner of Cumbria. The decor and furnishings reflect the surroundings: a good balance for modern comfort with a traditional feel. The kitchen is well equipped and the home baking delicious. The tree in the garden attracts lots of birds and under a clear night sky an owl was calling from the big tree at the front. There is plenty of low level walking nearby for a winter break as well as higher fells to tackle in better weather on longer days."

Mr & Mrs Scattergood

"We had an amazing stay. For anybody looking for a lovely quiet weekend away, this cottage is the perfect choice. The location is quiet and remote with lovely scenery and a number of nice walks in the immediate vicinity. The pictures of the cottage are a perfect illustration of the cosy and warm environment that's provided. The cottage is extremely well furnished and we found everything that we needed was available during our stay. Check in and check out was extremely easy and the cottage was very clean upon arrival. Overall this was the perfect long weekend and we would definitely return"
